Memorial Wall
Things to Do While Staying at the best Redcliffe Motor Inn: Drive 1.4klm along Anzac Ave to the waterfront (or walking takes about 20 mins), cross the roundabout and park down by the water. Walk to the left along the footpath to the First Settlement Memorial Wall built to commemorate Redcliffe being the first European settlement in Queensland. Explorer John Oxley and his team settled in Redcliffe in 1824 along with 14 soldiers (some with wives and children) and 29 convicts. The settlement was abandoned after a year and the colony was moved to a site on the Brisbane River which offered a more reliable water supply. You may recognise this site which includes a basketball court; it was recently featured in a Subway advertisement. Then take a dip at Settlement Cove Lagoon or at one of Redcliffe’s beautiful beaches followed by lunch at one of the many cafes and restaurants along the waterfront.
